Commissions

If you have a particular USAAF aircraft, or veteran that you would like to be depicted in the form of a pencil drawing, please get in contact with me as I am always happy to undertake client commissions. There are various options available to best suit your requirements and budget which may be summarised as follows:

  • Drawing based on a Photograph
This is the least expensive type of commission. The photograph could be of an aircraft, or scene, or else a portrait of a veteran. I will use the photograph you provide as the basis of the artwork I create.
  • Simple Aircraft Portrait
This type of commission allows you to have a chosen aircraft and selected paint scheme displayed as a portrait, whether airborne or on the ground. The background elements will be kept simple to give extra focus to the features of the aircraft in the picture.
  • Original Historical Scene
This type of commission is the most expensive as it will typically consist of several different elements brought together to depict a unique and realistic interpretation of a complete historical scene. These elements could include one or more of the following: other aircraft; vehicles and equipment; personnel; buildings and detailed landscapes. This type of commission will require me to carry out supporting research to make sure that the different items making up the composition are historically correct and in most cases, the use of models to allow me to accurately create the scene to be used as the basis of the artwork. As a result of the many variables at play when creating this type of artwork, every commission is priced and quoted for individually after I've had a more detailed discussion with you about your particular requirements.

Completion Timescales

The scheduling of all of my commissioned work is managed through an order book which works on a simple first-come first-served basis. As such, the estimated completion timescales for the artwork generally depend on two factors - the number of commissions that are already confirmed in my order book when I receive your enquiry and the specific details of your particular commission requirements - but I will always try my best to meet your deadline and fit you into my schedule wherever possible.

Picture Mounting and Framing

All Original artwork is supplied mounted in a neutral double mount with an inner sepia coloured border and an outer antique white border. As such, the artwork is shipped flat rather than rolled and will be ready for framing. Owing to the difficulties of safely shipping glass I do not offer any picture frames or framing services.

Delivery

I utilise a reliable and proven postal service for all deliveries and I will contact you to confirm your artwork has been dispatched and include the associated package tracking details. For international orders your artwork will take between 4 and 7 days to arrive depending on your location and the delivery will need to be signed for when it arrives. Please note, delivery outside the UK may be subject to local import taxes which are the client's responsibility. Delivery is quoted at cost and separately to the commission price, specific to your particular location.

Payment

Initial Deposit
If you are happy with the quotation that I provide you with after your initial enquiry, I will send you an invoice for 25% of the value of the commission (excluding postage and packing). You must make this initial deposit payment to secure a place on my order book and before any work will commence on your artwork.
Final Payment
Once your commission has been completed and you have approved the final scan that I'll send to you for review, you will then receive an invoice which will include the outstanding 75% balance of the commission price and also the postage and packing charges applicable to your location. Payment in full is required before your completed artwork is dispatched.

Hopefully this information gives you a better insight into the commissioning process, however if you would like to ask me any questions, or would simply like discuss your particular commission requirements in more detail with me, please don't hesitate to get in contact. Remember, there is no obligation and after our initial discussions, should you wish to proceed further I will send you a formal quotation to review.
